Retirement Benefits

Gilbert Public Schools employees* are eligible to participate in 403(b), Roth 403(b) and 457(b) retirement plans immediately upon employment.
A 403(b) (also called a tax-sheltered annuity or TSA) is a retirement plan that is made available to GPS employees. There are significant tax advantages including making pre-tax contributions and having the earnings on those contributions remain free of taxes until they are distributed from the plan.

Participants in a tax-sheltered 403(b) may:

o   Reduce taxable income through pre-tax contributions,

o   Enjoy tax-deferred earnings on plan contributions. If the contributions are made to a Roth 403(b) account,

o   Pay less on distributions as distributions usually occur during retirement when an employee may be in a lower tax bracket,

o   Have the ability to take loans from the 403(b) account.
